SUMMER SOFTBALL TEAM TRYOUTS

LLGSL is hoping to host two summer softball teams, one at the 10u level and one at the 12u level. These will be “select” teams (not everyone will make the team) and teams will be selected via a tryout process. Please read all the information carefully.

A bit about the summer program: The summer program is designed to provide players with the opportunity to strengthen their skills, and to have fun while doing it. There is an understanding that not all players can attend all events and vacations and other summer commitments are expected. There will be twice a week, evening practices, and double headers during the week and 2-3 weekend tournaments. 10u double headers are on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 12u on Mondays and Wednesdays. Double headers are most often, but not limited to, CMP, Trailside (Ashburn) and Bolen (Leesburg). Tournaments will be in Loudoun County or Central Maryland (usually a 1 hour 30 minutes’ drive) and will occur on both Saturday and Sunday of the tournament weekend.

TRYOUT INFORMATION

WHERE:  Sully Elementary School

WHEN: Sunday, 5 May (after pictures)

TIME: 3pm-5:30/6:00pm It will be a combined tryout for both age divisions. Pitchers and catchers will be asked to stay 30-45 minutes after to be evaluated separately which is included in the time range above.

You are age eligible for the 10u team if you are 10 or younger on 1 January or after in the year you are playing. And 12u if you are 12 or younger on 1 January or after.    

It is required that you register on the website for the team you are trying out for. It is one registration and a pull-down menu to select the age group you wish to register with. This does not commit you to participating, nor is it a guarantee you will be selected for the team. It is only to determine interest and to confirm we have enough players to form a team. No money is due at the time of registration. Payment will be due if you are selected for the team and commit to a roster spot. An installment plan for payment will be made available.

Cost: Estimate $300-$350 Final cost will not be determined until the number of double headers and tournaments to be played, as well as roster number is finalized. Registration fees will cover the cost of double headers, tournaments, field use fees and a uniform to include a jersey, socks, and belt. Players will be required to provide their own pants in the color determined by the coaches. There is no financial aid available, but teams can secure sponsors that will go directly to the teams and reduce each player's fees by the sponsor amount divided by the number of rostered players. Teams may also elect to have fundraisers to reduce the cost.

What if I cannot attend the tryout? We understand that this is short notice, but we need to move fast before the rec/all-star divisions in the tournaments fill up. If you cannot attend the tryout this Sunday, please go ahead and register to indicate that you are interested in playing this summer. You will be contacted by the coaches and/or league with more information and details.

LLGSL SPIRIT NIGHT AT PARK VIEW HIGH SCHOOL         

The coaches and players of the Park View High School
Varsity softball team would like to invite all LLGSL players
and their families to a spirit night.

WHO: All LLGSL players and their families.

WHAT: Senior Night and varsity softball game against the Fairfax Hawks

WHERE: Park View High School softball field-- 400 W Laurel Ave, Sterling, VA 20164. Field is right at the end of Laurel Ave with easy access to the softball field.

WHEN: Tuesday, 7 May at 6pm, game starts at 6:30pm

COST:  All current league players in their jersey will receive free admission. For all others there is a $7 admission fee.

IMPORTANT DETAILS: 

Seniors will be honored before the game at 6:00pm. This year’s seniors are all former LLGSL players: Kelly Martin, Anna Casey, and Lily Tiaga. LLGSL players will be invited onto the field to stand with the players for the National Anthem. Players wishing to take the field with the PVHS team for the anthem should arrive no later than 6:15pm. The game will start at 6:30pm. Players will also have an opportunity to get pictures with the team at the end of the game.

LLGSL SPIRIT NIGHT AT DOMINION HIGH SCHOOL         

Spirit night at Dominion High School was a great success with over 30 LLGSL players, along with their families in attendance. Perfect weather and a win for the Titans made for a fun evening. Thanks to the Titans for the invitation!
